Beauty

As a lady of a certain age I want to share my thoughts on various  beauty products I’ve taken for a spin! Because let’s face it none of us are getting any younger! After all, we all want what the label promises to come true don’t we? Surely we’d all like to be lifted, plumped and generally line free! And at an affordable price too if possible.

Ever on a budget and with years of experience in the beauty industry I’m on a one woman mission to find products in my price bracket. Long the way I might make some bits and bobs too. Most importantly I;m looking for products that actually do what they say on the tin. Join me on my journey. And lets find out what does and doesn’t work. I have always used the very best I can afford on my skin. And not all of those were all that, so let’s see if the magic elixir of youthful skin does actually exist.

Beauty Pie Superdose C Review

Beauty Pie Super Dose C Review

I do so love my skincare. To be fair I’m pretty much a sucker for anything new. But whereas I always used to spend a small fortune on the latest make me look a gazzilion times younger, smells amazing face cream, I now look for new things on the cheap(er) side of the market. Then about a year ago I discovered Beauty Pie. And this for me has been a game changer when it comes to affordable skincare. I am literally like a child in a sweet shop when I go on their website to view the wondrous goodies. And I know just how being a child in a sweet shop feels, my grandparents owned one. A Victorian building with rows and rows of jars all the way up to the ceiling filled with delicious (and oh so bad for you) sugary delights.  I thought I’d start sharing some of my favourite products with you. Let’s start with a review of Superdose C, one of my new Beauty Pie must haves. Continue Reading…

Homemade Lavender Bath Salts

Homemade Lavender Bath Salts

Whilst working on my mini bathroom makeover two things became apparent to me. Firstly my household has way too much plastic. And secondly it’s also filled with a lot of chemicals too. Now chemicals are not great for any of us and certainly not those who have a disability of one form or another. There has been so much research on what causes autism. And yet nothing as yet has been conclusive. So I figured I’d like to get the house a little greener and  more organic along my revamping way. Starting with the bathroom. I’m buying more human friendly products, starting to make my own soap. And instead of mass produced bubble bath I’m introducing homemade lavender bath salts.

Homemade Lavender Organic Soap

Homemade Lavender Organic Soap

If you’ve seen my recent Bathroom refresh you’ll know that as part of the makeover I’m trying to reduce plastic and chemicals in our household. It’s not as easy a task as I first expected it to be to be honest. One thing I do know though is that this is a great move. You see, as a family we all suffer with sensitive skin. There’s always someone with hives or a rash, or an eczema flare up. Couple that with middle RFW having OCD and constantly washing his hands and you can see why I’ve been on the lookout for a kind and gentle soap. The trouble is good soap is expensive. So I thought, why not try making my own. So here’s my super easy, fun to make recipe for homemade lavender organic soap.

Hylamide Skincare Review

Hylamide Skincare Review

Many moons ago I worked in the beauty industry. Firstly as a model, then for Charles Of The Ritz (a wonderful brand that’s sadly no longer with us) followed hotly by Estee Lauder and finally working as an Area Manager for Wella. So from the age of 17 I’ve always used great quality skincare. I do know my hyaluronic acid from my salicylic acid! I also worked for a pharmaceutical company and have a thorough knowledge of biology.I know how the skin works and when a claim is false or vastly exaggerated. I’ve grown tired of paying for the luxury brands charging vastly inflated prices. So now I’m on the hunt for affordable alternatives. Here’s the first brand I  tried on my journey to finding skincare that doesn’t break the bank and delivers what it says on the tin. Part of The Ordinary skincare group, here’s my Hylamide skincare review. Continue Reading…
