Are you afraid of the dark?
Hex & Henbane is a British luxury home décor brand. Specialising in wallcoverings and printed textiles with a dark edge. Along with a story to tell. The brand was established in 2018 by Derbyshire-based designer Lucy Bentley after completing her final year studying Decorative Arts.
Lucy has always had a keen interest in historical design, spending her weekends growing up exploring National Trust properties and local stately homes. Enchanted by their interiors and the stories they held. It perhaps comes as no surprise that this is where she draws much of the inspiration for her own work.
Lucy holds the Arts and Crafts movement particularly dear. Their attitudes towards fine craftsmanship, heritage and tradition resonating strongly with her. Themes which she tries to carry through into her practice. She particularly aims to push the boundaries between fine art and design. Working with curious, magical concepts to make her designs become the talking point of any room.
“As to the arsenic scare a greater folly it is hardly possible to imagine: the doctors were bitten as people were bitten by the witch fever.”
Hex and Henbane’s first collection “Witch Fever” takes inspiration from traditional arts and crafts prints. That is to say those harbouring a sinister surprise! With many of the dyes used testing positive for arsenic. And so through colour and symbolic imagery, the Witch Fever collection subtly alludes to how products which appear to be beautiful on the surface were hiding an often-deadly secret. Featuring wallcoverings, home textiles and fine art prints in a rich colour palette of blacks, golds and greens, Witch Fever brings a sense of drama to your interior.
Add a touch of magic to your home…
