How to install Gecko Glazing

PR Product – Tired of condensation? Fed up of single glazed cold and draughty sash windows? Worried about your heating bill this winter? Well I’ve found a brilliant but simple solution. Gecko Glazing is a window system for homeowners and DIY enthusiasts alike to simply transform any single glazed window into double glazing. Not only does it stop condensation but it also makes your home warmer too. And cuts down on your energy bills! Today I’m going to show you how to install Gecko Glazing and make your home warmer like mine

Close Up of window

But before I do let me tell you a little more about Gecko Glazing. You see this system is pretty unique. A form of secondary glazing like no other. Because it slots inside each individual window effectively turning each pane of glass into a double glazed unit. And unlike traditional secondary glazing methods it’s more or less invisible once in place. More than that, each window still opens and closes as it should too. It really is a marvel and is already making a difference in my home. It’s much warmer, retains the heat better and is cheaper to heat.

They’re very easy to order too. All you do is measure your window apertures and input the information into Gecko Glazing website. They then make up the Gecko panes ready for you to fit. It really is an easy process but as always with measurements, double and triple check them. You wouldn’t want them too small or too large would you.

So Without any further ado, let’s take a look at how to install Gecko Glazing! First up tools! What do you need? Well it turns out that the system is so simple that all you need is a butter knife (yep you heard me right), some window cleaner, a clean lint free cloth and a pair of latex gloves! It’s really that simple. You may or may not also need a screwdriver depending on the placement of your sash lock and hardware too.

Step 1 – Installing Gecko Glazing

First and foremost you need clean windows. So get that window cleaner and your cloth and give them a jolly good clean. I cleaned mine outside too because, well it’s just easier to see any marks if both sides are clean. Then turn of your heating (if it’s on) and open your windows for an hour. This is to let out as much moisture from the room as possible to prevent trapping any inside the panels.

Step 2 – Prep the panels

Pop on your latex gloves because no one wants unsightly finger marks on their windows. We all know how annoying that would be. And then grab the first pane you’d like to install. Each one comes with a number and when you order them you give each pane a name like left bottom etc….. I know! I said bottom! Each pane arrives with a protective film on each side of the acrylic to prevent scratches during manufacture and delivery. And so first and foremost remove the film from the side that will be facing your window.

Step 3 – Fitting the Gecko Pane

Now lift the pane up to your window with the aluminium frame facing towards the glass. And then Press the bottom of the pane into your window recess. Once done, firmly but gently press down on the top of the pane whilst pushing the top into place.

Step 4 – Finishing Touches

Each pane is surrounded by a band of sponge which creates an airtight gap between your window frame and the gecko panel. As they are designed to fit snuggly the sponge will bulge in some areas. This is easily resolved with your butter knife. Simply work around the Gecko Pane using the knife to push the bulging sponge back towards the glass to tidy it up and make a perfect seal.

And that my friends is it. I fitted the Gecko Panes to my bay window, all eight panes, including cleaning them in less than an hour. It really is one of the simplest and most amazing ideas. They’re virtually invisible when fitted. I have had no condensation since fitting them. And the house already feels warmer despite me being very cautious with the heating. I’m a total convert and will be fitting the system to the rest of the windows throughout the house.
