Well I’ve finally got the decs out and my 2018 Christmas Dining Room is ready for it’s reveal. Ever late to the party but always the last to leave! I think I’m catching up and the house is now beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. Sorry if that’s not going to embed the tune in your brain. So if you fancy a bit of a nosy at my 2018 dining room Christmas decs, click on the read more bit and come have a goggle at the reveal.
My dining room sadly doesn’t have room for a tree but it does have a huge original marble fireplace which I love to bits. Making it the perfect focal point for the festive decs. I normally use fake garlands. But this year they look decidedly forlorn so I thought what the hell! Why not go real this year? I mean all you need is some green stuff and Bob’s your uncle, right?? Wrong! The nearest thing I can get locally to foliage is a yellow carnation or a poinsettia! Never one to be put off! Poor Mr RFW offers to take me on a hunt for some. This maybe because he’s the loveliest husband ever or the fact he’s making up for being a grumpy pants all last week!
2018 CHRISTMAS DINING ROOM FIREPLACE REVEAL
So first on the destination list is Homebase. Well, they want £6 for something a spruce door hanger! At this rate, and with the amount of folliage I need, the national debt of Peru will start to look insignificant! It just so happens though that a cunning plan began to develop in the back of my brain somewhere. My eagle eyes were suddenly drawn to to the Christmas Trees. They were all reduced! Sidling up to Mr RFW, with a smile on my lips but not too much of a smile to look manic. I said, ‘You know what? Why don’t we just buy a tree and use the branches?”
CLOSE UP OF MY 2018 CHRISTMAS DINING ROOM FIREPLACE REVEAL
Of course, this was received with about as much enthusiasm as wet weekend. Though obviously still angling to get back into the good books he reluctantly agreed. So in torrential rain we set off home with our Christmas tree and duly set about chopping every branch off it! This is actually a really cost effective way of buying greenery. The tree cost only £20 with enough foliage for 4 rooms!
GILDED WALL IN MY 2018 CHRISTMAS DINING ROOM REVEAL
First up was to create the fireplace display. It’s actually really easy to do. All you need is some wet oasis, trays for the oasis and stuff to stock in it. Slowly add bit of greenery and let the magic begin right before your very eyes. To finish, add flowers, pheasant feathers, some sparkly bits and last but least, candles and lighting. I fell in love with the mini candles from Homebase. Aren’t they amazing? Completely wireless, they come with a remote control too. They’re so easy to use and effective too! I’m like a child in a sweet shop!
2018 CHRISTMAS DINING ROOM REVEAL – THE FAR END
A few bits of greenery either side of the fireplace creates some balance. Oh, and a mammoth amount of candles. I think the boys are old enough now that I can now trust them. The immortal words, ”don’t worry we’ve put it out but……” still rings in my ears! What is it with boys and fire?? I mean they’re 22, 18 and 16 now and they set the garden on fire only a matter of months ago! So there you have it, oh wait! I forgot Colin!! How could I forget my stunning Abigail Ahern Cow Head?? He’s all festive too with a sprig of greenery, some baubles and gold ribbon to boot.
